Auchentoshan 16 yr old Single Malt Scotch, Scotland
| |
|
|
Auchentoshan (Gaelic for "corner of the field") rests in the Lowlands at the foot of the Old Kilpatrick Hills, overlooking the
famous River Clyde - just a short drive from Glasgow. Classic Lowland style being triple distilled (Malt distillers in Scotland's
other regions double distill their Whiskies), making the resulting Whiskies soft, and quite easy to drink.
I have long been a fan of Auchentoshan finding pleasure in all of the various expressions. Stylistically, there is nothing like it.
Auchentoshan is fruity and floral being delicate while substantive with a fine, spicy accent. The 16 year-old, aged entirely in
Bourbon casks, is the ultimate expression of Auchentoshan. While many rare bottlings of single malts are priced to draw exclusive
interest from collectors, this 'Limited Edition' Auchentoshan is worth every penny being one of the finest Lowland Whiskies ever
made.

Tasting Note:
Brilliant copper color. The nose is an aromatic symphony presented to exalt the beauty of whisky. Scents of sweet toasted whole
grain bread, lavender honey, red currants, caramel, and vanilla fill the nose. The palate echoes the nose delivering its flavors
on a complex bed of textures that deftly alternate from viscous to spicy and cleverly angular. Its sense of proportion and
delicacy belie its strength giving further indication of this whisky's supreme character. Very limited - don't delay securing
your own bottle. $120
