At BevX we take great pride and joy in introducing you to wines that were previously unknown to you. We are always seeking wines with integrity, personality, and great flavors. Twisted Oak, from the foothills of California’s Sierra Mountains, ideally fits this criteria.

Twisted Oak Winery is less than a decade old and they produce fewer than 10,000 cases of wine annually (many of the wines you see at your supermarket produce four time as much Chardonnay alone). The winery, and their estate vineyard, is located in Calaveras County at an elevation of roughly 2,000 feet. The proprietors, Jeff and Mary Stai, have allowed their vineyard’s soils, climate, and elevation to determine the grape varieties grown at Twisted Oak (somewhat unique in California where many wineries consider grape varietals to be brands). The varietals that they have chosen to work with are Mediterranean in origin: Tempranillo and Garnacha (Grenache) from Spain, Mourvedre Syrah Grenache from France among others. The results speak for themselves as the Twisted Oak wines show incredible depth and dimension. Their ‘Rhone Ranger’ styled wines are among the very best that California has to offer.

While we are fans of many Twisted Oak wines, today we feature the fancifully named *%#&@! This wine surely presents challenges when ordering at a restaurant but offers no difficulties whatsoever while sipping. This Rhone inspired red (Mourvedre, Syrah, & Grenache) clearly demonstrates Twisted Oak’s wine making and blending skills as it presents a perfect marriage of fruit, spice, and earth. It’s tremendously versatile with enough natural acidity to make it the perfect companion to a wide range of dishes from roast chicken to grilled lamb.
