D'Argenzio Petite Sirah 'Bacigalupi Vineyard' Russian River Valley 2005
| |
|
|
For those who seek wines from small, independent, family-owned wineries, BevX has a gem for you; D'Argenzio Winery.
Several weeks ago BevX presented reviews from a collection of D'Argenzio wines and today we feature one of these wines as our
BOW.
D'Argenzio owns no vineyards but it does source its fruit from some of the best vineyards and locations in Sonoma. This
micro-winery produces and ages its wines in a small commercial space in Santa Rosa (Sonoma County, CA). D'Argenzio
produces fewer than 3,000 cases of wines each year. The wines are sold primarily in California but with the magic of the internet,
many of you (living in states with sensible shipping regulations) can purchase these wines and have them shipped directly to your
home.
Recently, I had the pleasure to meet D'Argenzio winemaker, Raymond D'Argenzio. Ray showed me around his modest space and shared a
taste of many of his latest wines from cask. I was much impressed by the flavor, depth, and integrity of all of his wines. I was
also struck by the fact that he was doing all of this great work in very modest conditions proving once again that tremendous wine is
primarily a product of terrific fruit handled with great care and passion. Passion is brimming at D'Argenzio Winery and I believe
that this message is delivered through each bottle.

Tasting Note:
Bold, bright ruby to purple color. The nose is spicy and fruity with leather, cigar box, and a firm mineral note. A massive wine
with layers of ripe and dried fruit balanced with great natural acidity. A complex and beautifully styled wine with tremendous
balance and length. Gorgeous. $32
